What’s the best way to contact you?

If you leave a message on a Friday or weekend, I’ll get back to you on Monday.

Emails and text messages: Confidentiality is important! Emails and texts are not secure communication methods, so use those only to schedule or confirm appointments.

I strongly recommend to contact your insurance company to learn more about your own plan. When you call please consider asking the following questions:

  • What are my out of network benefits?
  • What is the coverage for outpatient mental health services?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • In case your are asked about billing codes, Intake code is 90791 and follow up session is 90837.
If I don’t use my insurance, will you give me a receipt for “out-of-network” benefits?

Yes I will. This is called a Superbill.

Please keep in mind that any partial or total reimbursement for services you receive from “out-of-network” providers depends on your plan. What is Good Faith Estimate?

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Therapy Questions

What age groups do you work with?

Primarily, I work with adults; however, I’m happy to help teens resolve issues with guilt, anxiety, and social and academic stressors.

I work with individuals, couples, and families.

If I’m seeing you individually, can my spouse/partner join us?

Yes. If it’s important to you and beneficial to your treatment, we can do this. However, it’s best for us to meet individually at least four or five times first.

Our goal will be to address the role of your partner/spouse in your progress and as a source of support, not to provide couples therapy.

How long do I have to go to therapy?

Your needs and goals are unique, and so is your therapy. We’ll talk more about it during our first session.

At the beginning, we are likely to meet weekly for 3-4 weeks.

As you move forward toward your goals and start seeing therapy’s effects, we’ll touch base as needed.

How long will it take to feel better?

When you leave my office the first time, you’ll have a clearer idea of how you want to feel. Over time, and with additional therapy sessions, you’ll feel better, happier, more satisfied, more secure, and more lovable.

More importantly, you’ll know you deserve it!

What should I expect in our first session?

Our main goal for your first session is for you to know that you’re not alone. By asking for help, you’ve already travelled 51% of the road to reach your goals in therapy.

We won’t use your appointment time for paperwork. You can complete that in advance.

How long does a session last?

Sessions generally last 55 minutes, but your session can go longer, if needed.

How do I set up a consultation or a first appointment?

The best way is to call.

If I miss your call, I’ll call you back within 24 hours. Make sure to provide best contact times so that I can reach you quickly and we don’t play phone tag.

You can also email or text. Please note that we can email or text only to discuss scheduling and general practice matters – NOT to address counseling needs or to seek a professional opinion.

I look forward to talking to you!

What if I cry? Or cry too much?

Crying is cleansing. Part of being in therapy is learning more about that and other ways to cope with your feelings.

I have soft tissues in my office.

If you’re ever overwhelmed by your tears, don’t worry. I’ll coach you to engage in a soothing breathing exercise. I also have essential oils to help you unwind.

What if I’m afraid or don’t want to tell you everything?

One step at a time! My approach is based on honoring your needs and wants during your session. I’m not here to judge you or to tell you what to do.

What are you like?

My clients tell me I’m very personable, knowledgeable, and easy-to-talk-to. They also say they feel very comfortable talking about their feelings with me, that I helped them to cope, and that they were able to learn skills to work through their “dark times.”

Someone very special in my life says that I am like the Energizer Bunny!

I’m generally happy, love my life, and learn the best I can from every day’s challenges. I’m a big advocate of self-care and becoming a better version of you in everything you do.

Have you ever been in therapy? Did you like it?

Yes, I first experienced therapy when I was 14 years old and was experiencing many life changes, especially at home. I LOVED it!

I will never forget the “AHA!” moment when I realized somebody understood what I was feeling, without judgment, and motivated me to move forward. As a teenager, I thought it was incredibly cool.

It was then that I knew I wanted to learn how to help free others from their loneliness.

Do you have pets?

I do! Betsy is our loyal and loving friend. She is good to my kids and patient with us. Sometimes she likes to play with trash and confuses her toys with my kids’ toys.

Your logo is cool. What inspired it?

I love the culture of Peru; in fact, you’ll see Peruvian crafts when you come to my office! I also love the feeling I get from those warm and energetic colors.
